Mono Stringer Staircase in Withdean, East Sussex
In the heart of Withdean, East Sussex, we were commissioned directly by a private client to design and install a striking mono stringer staircase in a narrow hallway. The challenge of the compact space gave us the opportunity to create a unique design that would not only meet building regulations but also serve as a standout architectural feature.
The staircase needed to switch back on itself within a narrow corridor, which allowed us to incorporate a single central glass sheet running up the inner core. This maximised the tread width and brought an open, airy feel to the space.
We carefully matched the dark brown oak treads to the client’s existing flooring, finishing them with a semi-matte hard wax oil for a cohesive and elegant look. In addition, we integrated warm white LEDs into the nosings and landing areas, providing a soft illumination.
Working closely with the client and their architect, we ensured the staircase complied with all regulations while making a stylish statement in the home.
This Withdean project is a perfect example of how a mono stringer staircase can transform a narrow hallway into a central design feature.
