Zig Zag Staircase in Redhill, Surrey

We recently completed the installation of a bespoke zig zag staircase in Redhill, Surrey, designed to act as a true architectural feature within this contemporary home. The brief was to create a clean, modern staircase that felt light and open, while still delivering strong visual impact.

Powder Coated Zig Zag Mono Stringer

The staircase is formed around a powder coated zig zag mono stringer, giving the stair its distinctive angular profile. The zig zag design creates a bold, sculptural look while keeping the structure visually slim and refined. The powder coated finish provides a durable surface and a crisp, consistent appearance that works perfectly within a modern interior.

This style of zig zag staircase is ideal where the stair is intended to be a design feature rather than simply a functional element.

Low Iron Glass Balustrades and Frameless Landing Detail

To maintain a bright and open feel, we installed low iron, crystal clear glass balustrades throughout the staircase and landing area. Low iron glass was selected to minimise the green tint found in standard glass, giving a much clearer, sharper finish.

The frameless landing balustrade was inset into the floor structure to achieve a clean infinity glass look around the edge of the landing. With no visible base channels or heavy fixings, the glass appears to rise directly from the floor, enhancing the floating effect of the staircase.

Floor-to-Ceiling Glass Wall

Alongside the staircase, we installed a full height glass wall, running from floor to ceiling. This frameless glass feature allows natural light to travel through the space and strengthens the open-plan feel of the interior. Using the same low iron glass ensures a consistent, high-end finish across all glass elements connected to this bespoke feature staircase.

Microcement Treads with Integrated LED Lighting

The stair treads were finished in microcement, giving a smooth, contemporary surface that complements the sharp lines of the zig zag steel stringer. Each tread includes a routed border detail which houses a hidden slimline LED lighting system. This provides subtle, indirect lighting across the stair, adding both atmosphere and practical illumination without visible fittings.
