Ovingdean’s Glass Stringer Staircase: A Truly Unique Feature by Brighton Stairs
Over in Ovingdean, East Sussex, we had the chance to create something really special. A client’s architect reached out to us for a staircase that’s definitely not your everyday design. They wanted a glass stringer staircase—yes, you heard that right, the stringers are made out of structural glass instead of metal.
We used 25.5mm toughened and laminated structural glass with a rigid interlayer to form the sides of the staircase. The treads were a golden oak, and we hid little steel spacer barrels inside them so they bolted between the glass panels. The result? It looks like the oak steps are just floating in mid-air, letting light flow right through the staircase and making the whole thing feel open and airy.
This wasn’t just a standard project. It’s got that real wow factor because everything was done in-house by our team at Brighton Stairs, and it’s completely unique. No metal stringers here—just glass, oak, and a lot of imagination. If you’re ever in Ovingdean and you spot a staircase that seems to defy gravity, there’s a good chance it’s this one.
So, if you’re dreaming of a glass stringer staircase of your own, you know who to ask!
